Winter Wind Down

Jordian Dougherty

The calendar says Spring is coming next week, but here in Iowa mother nature better get moving if she plans to match the calendar's plans! As winter is coming to an end, and the last blog post was 'seasons changing' it only seems fitting to recap our winter as we dive into our busy season around Main at Hart!

I chatted with each of the 'adults' of Main at Hart as I prepared to recap winter! Kyle Carpenter's winter advice was "Teach them (kids) hard work and responsibilities but when the oppurtunity comes to spend time with your kids do it, because those days are in fact numbered." As a theme across the board I think we all would agree that was how most of our winter was spent! When there are 6 kiddos between the 2 families, the winter slow down is looked forward to sometimes!

It's interesting how, as we get older? Maybe it's the way the world has been? Just like good ole Iowa throwing 4 seasons at us (sometimes in a week!) We learn to appreciate every season, in NO way was this winter about doing nothing but instead it was about taking it all in, reflecting, knowing how we're going to spend year two with Main at Hart. Kelci says it best! "The dreaming, the planning, the looking at new ideas!" We spent countless hours working on dreaming up how we could better serve every one of our amazing customers and I know we can wholeheartley say season 2023 will top last year and we have big plans! Kyle Dougherty says "I'm preparing for spring by brainstorming ideas on how to grow bigger, better, and more effincient! More efficienct in watering, weeding, and feeding." I Would like to add that he is amazing at all of these categories already but truly the point is this winter we've prepared for the season ahead!

As our world is in such a hustle and bustle just as the flowers and grass go dorment that season of stillness for all of us was welcomed with open arms! "Don't let the winter blues get you down" was Kyle D's advice for winter! I think as always embrasing the season we were in was the best part! As transition is upon us, how about we start talking spring?!

I asked each of them how they individually were preparing for spring, Kyle C said, "Spring is the oppurtunuity for new beginnings. From planting new crops to livestock continuing the circle of new life... going into the new year with a good game plan sets the foundation for the year." Kyle D said "The thing I am looking forward to most is seeds. Everything seeds. planting, watering, and GREENHOUSE." We have a small greenhouse, but he seems pretty confident in this greenhouse current;y the basement is full of plant sells and green little seedlings! SO, maybe our 2024 vision board will include a greenhouse? Goals right!?

Really i just wanted to check in and let everyone know we weren't avoiding the blog, we were simply working on a season of rest and a season of planning! We have really made strides this year on changes! SO far, we have a subcription option now! We have opened bouquet bar dates where we will come to YOU and hangout with a group of friends to work on bouquets! We have so many other wonderful things up our sleeves and we cannot wait to share along the way.

From here on out my goal is once a week blog posts! If you have any big topics you would like to cover comment below with any and all things! We will cover all the new things and so much more! Last piece of advice i will add from Kelci is"where the flowrs bloom so does hope"- Lady Bird Johnson

Cheers to 2023 and the year ahead!
